Of course, the foods on this list shouldn't be the only foods you eat, but incorporating some or all into your diabetes meal plan will help improve your overall health.
Are These Power Foods in Your Diet?
If you already follow a healthful meal plan filled with whole grains, fresh fruits and veggies, and lean protein, congratulations! You're on your way to a long, healthy life and are taking a major step in controlling your weight and blood glucose levels. Plus, you're probably already eating a bunch of the foods on this list.
For those who are taking the baby-steps approach to eating better, this list is even more helpful. Not only are these power foods high in fiber, antioxidants, and vitamins and minerals, they're also familiar and easy to find. That means you don't have to hunt down any exotic ingredients or shop at specialty grocery stores to find foods that will help you get on track with a healthful meal plan.
#2 Blueberries
Enjoy the benefits of blueberries on their own or in a variety of foods, including smoothies and pancakes. Blueberries provide dietary fiber, vitamin C, and flavonoids, a type of phytonutrient that offers antioxidant protection, such as boosting your immune system and fighting inflammation. Flavonoids may also help decrease the LDL (bad cholesterol)-oxidation process that can lead to arterial plaque, according to the Cleveland Clinic.
Blueberries get their dark blue color from anthocyanins, another disease-fighting antioxidant that may benefit heart health. Blueberries have also been studied for their potential to protect and improve vision.
One serving is 3/4 cup and has 15 grams of carbs. You can enjoy fresh, in-season blueberries May through October or buy the frozen varieties year-round.
Blueberry Buckwheat Pancakes
Buckwheat contains a phytochemical that might have a beneficial effect on blood glucose levels.
SERVINGS: 6 (2-pancake) servings
CARB GRAMS PER SERVING: 22

1/2 cup whole wheat flour
1 tablespoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup refrigerated or frozen egg product, thawed, or 1 egg, slightly beaten
1-1/4 cups buttermilk or sour milk
1 tablespoon cooking oil
1/4 teaspoon vanilla
3/4 cup fresh or frozen blueberries, thawed
1. In a medium bowl, stir together buckwheat flour, whole wheat flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Make a well in center of flour mixture; set aside.

New Product Review - The Delitefuls Seafood Meals
They are currently only available at Walmart and are priced at $5.48 per package. Not a bad price!
Delitefuls come in five flavors: Cod Mediterranean Medley, Tilapia Mango Tango, Salmon Florentine Alfredo, Shrimp Bowtie Scampi, and Swai Caribbean BBQ.
Official descriptions of the entrees are as follows:
SHRIMP Bowtie Scampi: This entree combines All Natural tender Shrimp (#1 seafood choice in USA) in a low fat scampi sauce – Delicate yet creamy blend of heart healthy olive oil, garlic and hints of butter, lemon, and zesty Italian herbs reminiscent of old Italy – perfectly paired with Whole wheat bowtie pasta, broccoli florets and red & yellow peppers.
SALMON Florentine Alfredo: This entree combines an All Natural Wild Salmon portion (Pink, Flaky Meat and high in Omega-3) in a very light, mild lemon citrus sauce made with extra virgin olive oil, Parmesan cheese, garlic and onion with hints of butter and cream — paired with whole wheat rotini pasta, green peas, crisp red peppers, and spinach. The flavor profile is mild and fresh.
SWAI Caribbean BBQ: This entree combines an All Natural Swai portion (very mild, light & flaky whitefish) in a sweet and spicy mustard BBQ sauce (with hints of Apple Cider, cinnamon and bay) along with roasted potatoes, sweet yellow corn, and juicy pineapple chunks. The flavor profile is fuller, sweet & spicy with a surprising Caribbean twist.
TILAPIA Tango Mango: This entree combines an All Natural Tilapia portion (very mild, light & flaky whitefish) in a sweet and tangy mango sauce (made wth chunks of ripened mango, green onion, cilantro with hints of red pepper & garlic) along with white rice, red pepper, sugar snap peas and crisp edamame beans. The flavor profile is tangy, fresh with a hint of spice.
COD Mediterranean Medley: This entree combines an All Natural Cod portion (mild, flaky, whitefish staple) in a Mediterranean sauce (rich, wholesome zesty sauce made with crushed tomatoes, extra virgin olive oil, white onion, Italian olives, fresh herbs and paprika seasoning to bring out the fullest flavor) with whole wheat fettuccine, yellow peppers, green beans, zucchini, and capers.
Each entree has between 160 and 250 calories, and Delitefuls are made with no preservatives.

Bison Sirloin Steak w/ Sauteed Mushrooms, Baked Potato, ...
Today's Menu: Bison Sirloin Steak w/ Sauteed Mushrooms, Baked Potato, and Hearth Grain Bread
For dinner tonight I had my favorite Steak, Bison Sirloin Steak. Seasoned with McCormick Grinder Steakhouse Seasoning and pan fried in Extra Virgin Olive Oil about 4 minutes a side, makes a nice medium rare. Covered with sauteed Mushrooms and sides of a Baked Potato with Salt and Pepper. Also had Kroger Bakery Hearth Grain Bread. Dessert later a Eggo Whole Grain Waffle topped with Mango and Pineapple Salsa. I posted this Salsa recipe a while back and have grown to really love it, keep some on hand all the time now. Perfect with the Waffle!

Pizza ranks high among favorite foods in the United States. It's delicious, convenient, and you can eat it with your hands, plus it's an icon of football games, birthday parties, and movie nights. The downside is that many commercially made pizzas are full of calories that can blow a meal plan in one slice.
Frozen pizza is convenient, but many varieties are high in calories, sodium, carbs, and fat. Here is the nutrition information for one slice of these popular frozen pizzas:

Sweet-and-Sour Chicken Drumsticks
From EatingWell.com Which is loaded with great recipes!
Chicken drumsticks stay deliciously moist when grilled-even with the skin removed. Minty sweet-and-sour dipping sauce adds a refreshing twist to "ordinary" grilled chicken. Make it a meal: Serve with brown rice and slices of fresh pineapple.

Ingredients
* 1/2 teaspoon(s) freshly grated orange zest
* 1/4 cup(s) orange juice
* 1/4 cup(s) water
* 3 tablespoon(s) honey
* 1 tablespoon(s) cider vinegar, plus 1 teaspoon, divided
* 1/2 teaspoon(s) salt, divided
* 1/4 teaspoon(s) ground coriander
* 1 teaspoon(s) cornstarch
* 1/4 cup(s) chopped fresh mint
* 8 chicken drumsticks, (about 2 pounds) skin removed, trimmed
* 1/4 teaspoon(s) freshly ground pepper
Directions
1. Preheat grill to medium. (No grill? See Broiler Variation, below.)
2. To prepare dipping sauce, combine orange zest, orange juice, water, honey, 1 tablespoon vinegar, 1/4 teaspoon salt and coriander in a small saucepan; bring to a boil. Whisk cornstarch and the remaining 1 teaspoon vinegar in a small bowl until smooth. Add to the saucepan and return to a boil, whisking until thickened, 30 seconds to 1 minute. Remove from the heat. Stir in mint.
3. Sprinkle drumsticks with the remaining 1/4 teaspoon salt and pepper. Oil the grill rack (see Tip). Grill the drumsticks until crispy on all sides and an instant-read thermometer inserted into the thickest part registers 165°F, about 15 minutes total. Serve the drumsticks with the dipping sauce on the side.
4. Broiler variation: Position oven rack in the upper third of the oven; preheat broiler to high. Prepare sauce (Step 2). Coat a broiler pan with cooking spray. Sprinkle drumsticks with salt and pepper (Step 3), then broil, turning once, until an instant-read thermometer inserted into the thickest part registers 165°F, about 15 minutes total.
