Oyster Health Benefits..........

Kitchen Hint of the Day!

Enjoy that Easter Ham.............

Ham contains a healthy dose of protein and iron, but the type of ham you eat influences how nutritious the meat is. Lean deli ham is low in fat and makes a tasty sandwich, but it contains a large amount of sodium.

Kitchen Hint of the Day!

Keep the cake fresh.....

If you need to store a cake more than a day or two, put half an apple in the container. The apple will provide just enough moisture to keep the cake from drying out. Cakes around here never last that long to try this!

Kitchen Hint of the Day!

The Rule of Thumb.....

This hint is simple one, but incredibly useful. When you shape your burgers, use your thumb to make an indent in the top. That way, as the burger cooks and the juices try and escape, they'll pool in the burger and get reabsorbed, instead of running down the side and getting lost in the pan. Indenting the burger always makes the patty a better shape; as the meat contracts it will even out into a flat patty. Burger on!

Kitchen Hint of the Day!

Our friend, the Onion.......

Yellow and white onions can be kept for a longer amount of time than the red ones, as they have a lower sugar content. Store in an open space that's cool and dry, and away from bright light, which can make them bitter. Don't store them anywhere that may become damp.

Kitchen Hint of the Day!

Herbs and Spices...

You can make your dried herbs and spices last longer by putting half of the amount into a sealed, airtight container when you purchase them. Label the container and keep it in your freezer. When the spice on hand loses its aroma, replace it with your supply in the freezer. Works out great, especially for those spices you don't use that often.

Kitchen Hint of the Day!

Don't poke that meat!.....

Whenever barbecuing, use tongs to turn the meat. A fork should never be used. For it will punch holes in the flesh and allow the natural juices to escape and loose flavor and become chewy.

Kitchen Hint of the Day!

When cutting corn....

After cutting corn off the cob, use the back side of a knife (not the blade side) to scrape the cob again to extract the sweet milk left behind. This milk adds flavor and body to any corn dish.
