West Chester Township’s annual holiday parade and tree lighting kick off the holiday season November 16. The parade is held in conjunction with the Olde West Chester Christmas Walk, sponsored by the Merchants of Olde West Chester. The event features live entertainment, crafts, activities and early holiday gift shopping.
The theme of the parade this year, “Fire Up the Christmas Spirit,” is focused on the 50th Anniversary of the West Chester Fire Department and thanking firefighters for their service. A Fire Department Open House will be held at Fire Station 71 from 1 to 3 p.m. as part of the Christmas Walk. Those interested in learning and celebrating the history, development and operations of the West Chester Fire Department will find the stop enjoyable.
The annual holiday parade will begin at Union Day School at 7:00 p.m. and will work its way down Cincinnati-Dayton Road to the Township Administration Building, where the community tree will be illuminated directly following the parade, around 8:00 p.m.
The Grand Marshal of this year’s parade will be Lawrence Cox, one of the founding volunteer firefighters of the West Chester Fire Department As in years past, all interested participants are invited to join in the parade. Line-up begins at 6 p.m. at Union Day School.
