Sayersbrook Ranch History
SayersBrook Ranch was founded in 1928 when Frank Sayers acquired the original spread of 600 acres with the goal of creating an apple orchard. It was named by Jenny Sayers, Skip's grandmother, after a spring branch that flows through the sprawling ranch.

During the 1940's Herb and "T" Sayers, Skip's parents, sustained the apples and "T" became a cattle baroness adding to the acreage another 600 acres.

During the 1970's Skip & Connie began raising bison and they joke that 1976 was their "Bison"-Tennial. Their desire to raise bison began after reading the Plains Indians lived on bison meat and never contracted cancer, heart disease, or strokes, despite living to be eighty to ninety years old. In fact, scientists speculated that had they had dental care, they would have lived to be one-hundred and thirty-five.

During the 90's the Ranch expanded to over six square miles, 1100 Bison, and evolved into a tour
destination, featuring herd tours, sporting clays, fly-fishing, boating, 50 miles of 4-wheel off-road trails, and the home of the American Off Road Training Center. It is endorsed as a 5 star destination by Holland and Holland of London, England.

Elk Cheese Burger w/ Baked Fries

Dinner Tonight: Elk Cheese Burger w/ Baked Fries

Started the morning off with one of my favorite Breakfast dishes,  Skillet Potatoes and Ham. I used 1 package of Simply Potatoes Steakhouse Seasoned Diced Potatoes and a package of Meijer Diced Ham to prepare it. Just cook the Potatoes according to the package instructions and with about 5 minutes of cooking time left add the Diced Ham. Served it in a bowl and I topped it with a sprinkle of Sargento Reduced Fat Shredded Sharp Cheddar Cheese. Just love starting off the day with a skillet meal!

It was house cleaning today and I wanted to get everything done early because its NFL Football
today, first Sunday of the year! So I ran the vac, dusted inside. Outside, I got the leaf blower out and cleaned the wooden deck and driveway areas. Beautiful day out today, sunny around 75 degrees and no humidity! A little taste of Fall maybe? Anyway everything done and settled down for a full day of Football! For dinner tonight, I've entered the world of Elk! I prepared a Elk Cheese Burger w/ Baked Fries.

I had been wanting to try Elk for some time now and finally ordered some online from SayersBrook
Ranch. I ordered  a 1 lb. package of 3-Elk Burgers, a 1 lb. package of Ground Boar, and a 4 lb. package of Bison Chopped Sirloin Steak. So the Elk Burgers weigh 5.3 oz each. And to quote the site description of the Burgers - All our burgers are 100% meat. No fillers, no additives of any kind. Gluten free. High in protein, lower in fat than beef. Low in cholesterol and saturated fat. Delicious, with no gamey taste. Super easy to BBQ. Our meat has NO antibiotics, NO hormones, NO steroids. Our animals are free range and grass fed. The package arrived on time and very packaged with all items still froze.

To prepare them is just like preparing Buffalo Burgers. it takes about 3/4 of the time it takes to cook
Beef. I grabbed a skillet and sprayed it with Pam Cooking Spray and added a tablespoon of Extra Virgin Olive Oil, heated it on medium low. As the pan was heating I seasoned the Elk Burger with McCormick Grinder Sea Salt and Peppercorn Medley. Added the Burger to the pan and fried the Burger 5 minutes and flipped it over and continued to cook it another 4 1/2 minutes, to a beautiful medium rare. With a minute of cooing time left I added a slice of Kraft Sharp Cheddar to the top. It cooked up beautifully, just as Buffalo does. The Elk was juicy and very flavorful. I wasn't sure if the Cheese would work with the Elk but it worked great. It makes one great Burger! I have 2 more in the freezer, I'll have to keep a package in the freezer. I'll be trying a Ground Wild Boar Burger next week, can't wait!

To go with Elk Burger I baked some Ore Ida Crinkle Fries. Seasoned them with Salt and Pepper and served with a side of Hunt's Ketchup. For dessert tonight a bowl of Breyer's Low Carb Vanilla Bean Ice Cream topped with some Smucker's Sugarless Hot Fudge Chocolate Topping.
