End of Summer Hint......
Before you put your cooler away, wipe the inside down with a paper towel or rag that has been dampened with water and few drops of vanilla extract. The alcohol in the vanilla works as a disinfectant and your cooler will smell great!

Kitchen Hint of the Day!
Don't let that Baking Soda go to waste....
Baking soda is an extremely effective cleaner. Use it with vinegar to deodorize drains and clean stove tops and sinks.

Kitchen Hint of the Day!
Cleaning up after a delicious scrambled egg breakfast? Use cold water. It cleans dried egg off pans and utensils better than hot water, which causes the protein to bind to surfaces and harden.

Now here's one great idea and another great use aluminum foil. It's a great way to get rid of unwanted used grease. Put aluminum foil in a bowl, pour the grease in. When it hardens, roll up the foil and throw it out!

Kitchen Hints of the Day!
A couple of laundry tips passed along to me from Aundry A.
Hint #1 - A tablespoonful of black pepper in the first suds in which you wash cottons, will keep the colors from running.
Hint #2 - A tablespoon of vinegar to a quart of rinse water is frequently very effective in reviving faded colors.

Kitchen Hint of the Day!
* Thank you to Nannie W. for passing this hint along to me!
Baking soda isn’t as effective a deodorizer for the fridge as the baking soda company's would like you to believe. Activated charcoal is much better at absorbing fridge and freezer odors. Baking soda is an extremely effective cleaner, though. Use it with vinegar to deodorize drains and clean stove tops and sinks.

Kitchen Hint of the Day!
Thank you to Doris and Matt for passing this one along to share!
Stop, Save that Pickle Juice! - Whenever you empty a jar of dill pickles, use the left-over juice to clean the copper bottoms of your pans. Just pour the juice in a large bowl, set the pan in the juice for about 15 minutes. Comes out looking like new.

Kitchen Hint of the Day!
Burnt food can be removed from a glass baking dish by spraying it with oven cleaner and letting it soak for 30 minutes. The burnt-on residue will be easier to wipe off.

Kitchen Hint of the Day!
Beet juice will stain your hands and is hard to clean off. To remove the stain on your hands, just sprinkle salt on the stained area and allow it to remain a few seconds before washing the area with soapy water.

Kitchen Hints of the Day!
Hint #1 - To remove stale smoke smell, place dish of vinegar in room overnight.
Hint #2 - When frying with butter, put several drops of cooking oil in the pan first; then the butter won’t burn. (I’ve tried this! It works.)

Kitchen Hint of the Day!
For aluminum pans that are looking dull, just boil some apple peels in them. This will brighten up the aluminum and make your house smell wonderful!

Household Tip of the Day!
Instead of using contact paper on your kitchen shelves, use some peel-and-stick vinyl floor tiles (cut to size if necessary). They're super easy to clean, and they're usually cheaper, too - some stores will even give you a free sample.

Kitchen Hint (Household) Tip of the Day!
Here's one I did not know! - When flushing grease down the drain, don't use hot water (like many of us were taught). The grease coats the pipes, cools, and will collect bits of debris. Instead, use cold water. It will make sure the grease solidifies in chunks that will easily get flushed through the pipes. Better yet, empty your grease into a soda can and throw it away!

Kitchen (Household Tip) Hint of the Day!
Accidentally drip candle wax on a tablecloth? Remove it by rubbing with an ice cube and then scraping it with a dull knife. Another way to remove candle wax from a tablecloth or other fabric is to place some brown paper (not newspaper) over the top and iron it on a low heat. The wax will transfer to the paper!

Kitchen Hint of the Day!
Another great polisher for brass and copper is a simple lemon! Cut a lemon in half, sprinkle the cut side with salt, and rub over the surface you're cleaning. Rinse with cold water and watch it shine.

Kitchen Hint of the Day!
Besides being a great side for fries, here's another use for ketchup. Believe it or not, a great way to polish copper is to rub it with ketchup and let it stand for an hour. Rinse off the ketchup with hot water, then buff to an incredible shine.

Kitchen Hint of the Day!
Use a paste of lemon juice and baking powder to remove small stains from crystal. Treat tougher stains by placing 2 teaspoons uncooked rice inside the crystal piece, adding water, and swirling. The small amount of abrasive action from the rice will remove the stains - perfect for vases with narrow necks.

Kitchen Hint of the Day!
Cleaning a cheese grater will never be a problem if you grate a small piece of raw potato before trying to wash it out. Sometimes an old toothbrush also comes in handy for cleaning graters.

Kitchen Hint of the Day!
If the inside of your coffee cup is stained from coffee or tea, it's not too late to get it to look like new. Mix a paste of course salt (or baking soda) and water. Scrub the mug with this, then rinse well.
